cd /etc/rc3.d
mv S*gpm K20gpm

edit /etc/inittab so that the line that starts with 'id' says

I recently added a usb-mouse to a Linux box and decided to do a clean
reinstall with an unofficial woody image, and an upgrade to the 2.4.6
kernel. (This turned out to be much more difficult than just doing a
dist-upgrade to testing from potato that I had done on another
computer). Anyway, the mous

I set up X on my ThinkPad T20, and although X works fine after some
tweaking, I'm having troubles with xdm.
The xlogin comes up after my laptop has booted, but I can't get past
the login phase. When I enter the correct userID and password, the
screen flickers, freezes briefly, and then send

I have XF86 3.3.6, Gnome, with windowmaker as my windowmanager. The XDM
starts at boot. My question is ..How do I customize the look of XDM?(
like a custom background for the logon screen). Or better, is there a
better program than XDM for the graphical login. Like maybe one that
has a menu to
Xdm works fine ( when you have the X configured correctly) in hamm as
well. Just install xdm, and it will work.
If you ever want to get rid of it, edit the
/etc/X11/config file and comment the line that says
'start-xdm'
Same, to get it to work again,
uncomment that line.

Hello Debian-user,
I now have Debian with X running smoothly and I want to add xdm
login. I have tried to find information about xdm, but I can not
find much (maybe I am blind?). The little I have found is

What I want is for xdm to start my X sessions like sta

I successfully upgraded to slink from hamm. Yahoo! It only took about 10
hours over 3 days to do it. apt is your friend!!!
One question though. I rebooted my system and xdm started. I never use
xdm, but I thought okay I'll try it. It wouldn't let me log in either as
root or as a normal user.
