xdm used to be in the xbase package, no it is in its own package. It was probably sucked in by a dependency in the now empty xbase package. So just 'dpkg --purge xdm'. Once you have upgraded to the -10 versions of the X packages in slink you can also 'dpkg --purge xbase' as it was just a dummy package to help in the migration of the upgrade.
