Another 72 hours later and nothing works.
A new install CD for Power PC on a 7600/132. Yet again I read I have
installed succesfully. On reboot, all goes along fine until the crucial last

Hi,
I want to move the cdrom from /cdrom to /mnt/cdrom and even though so noted
in fstab, apt-get refuses to see anything but /cdrom to grab apps. Any idea
how to change its config?
Much thanks.

That's exactly what it's set at. Well, there's one down and two to go.

I have had (for reasons I won't go into) to trash and completely
reinstall everything (potato). I am trying to install WordPerfect 8,
but get an odd error message about the installation directory not being
a "valid installation area". I have checked the permissions:
drwx--x--x, and this seems OK
Can't you connect the 486 machine to a newer machine via serial or parallel
cable? Perhaps with Ethernet?

Well I finally solved the "man" problem. Thanks to all that replied (esp.
to Paul Smith and Ron Rademaker who gave this newbie some great tips on
commands to use while installing via floppy). Folks it is possible to
install via floppy but, as the manual does say, it is NOT recommended. You

If you installed from floppies only with no install from CD aft
You should have man, but if you don't you can download the appropiate
package (man-db), just go to a local mirror, or if you don't know any to
ftp.debian.org and download the file man-db_.deb, get it to your
system and do: dpkg -i man-db_.deb (of course replace
by the version of man-db you've down
Well I just found out why I can't use the method : apt-get install man-db
manpages or all the other versions of that string. The machine running
Debian is NOT connected to the internet.
However, when I was installing the OS via floppies only, shouldn't the
installation have installed "man" for me

Howdy y'all :)
Sorry I've been off the air for so long (I've been waiting for my debian
Cd's to get here).. I finally got them :)
Okay here's the scoop... I was running kernel 2.0.32, and I custom
compiled 2.0.34 for sound using make menuconfig...Here's the problem...
Under kernel 2.0.32, I co

Uh! I do not seem to remember what
If the system says "non-system disk" when you put the rescue disk in and
reset, check for two problems:
1. Go into your BIOS set-up and make sure it is set to boot from the "A"
drive _first_.
2. There's something wrong with the floppy image file or the way you wrote
it. This error message c
