I was just going to give up , and I even installed shorewall, when my last
attempt with my very old iptables config (from redhat 7.2) did work. I of

where the x of sdx is *carefully chosen *to point to your USB stick;

Hi all,
I got a new computer (no OS inside) and would like to install a fresh Debian
Lenny 5.0.2 from an usb dongle.
After following a How To (
http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/i386/ch04s03.html.en ) given in a
recent post on this list, I managed to create a bootable usb device
including a CD
problem when Etch was stable.
I guess I was lucky. My luck ran out when Lenny became stable (and Etch
became old stable).
So I cleaned up sources.list. It solved the problem.

sector is bad and the test failed, you can try to play with dd and force
a reloc of that sector but the chances of screw-up are pretty high.
Anyway, you drive is at least 1.5year old (uptime about that time), and
bad sectors do happen. I would not panic since you have backups (because

I made a careless, strong 'aptitude dist-upgrade' and half my system
disappeared. Since then, I cannot install wxvlc (or gxine, see bug
#318019) without having to uninstall libglu1-xorg, x-window-system-core
