I don't know how much of a help is this, but do you know how stable that
machine may be?
I don't recall getting a dbootstrap error myself, but I got one strange
experience with an OpenBSD install. Part of the hard drive was beyond
help even when it's
It seems that at least switching to the other card doesn't seem to lead
to overruns and errors.
I'll have to run some transfers to be sure.
Thanks lots for the help!
Is there others here who know about software channel bonding in Linux?
It would be an interesting thing to do.
Cal
Well I got a spare 3c509 that has not been used. I suppose I could try
that card too. I got no spare cable, but if the spare card is also
having problems, that would give me a good idea what's going on.
Thanks all for the help!

Glad to hear the info!

downtime or no data loss. If they meant no downtime, then your task is
much, much harder.
Good luck! =)

Also, how can I make it that if it's configured for the external device

w the parameters should be somewhere in the
subdirectory debian, but when I thought I changed the right one, it
didn't even affect the parameters the slightest bit.
Would anyone know where exactly the compiler parameters are stored in an
unarchived source package so that I could alter those setting
eeds to be some packet mangling, but I
don't know what.
Is there anyone here that knew how to get the whole thing working? Or
shall I start looking into using squid as a transparent proxy to get
this thing through?

Nate,
It may have been the iptables package which provides the init.d script.
the comments in the /etc/defaults/iptables says that not even the author
likes it.

Here's my problem, no matter how I try, I couldn't get aumix to supply
the sound through the headset instead of the speakers. The speakers have
front and back plugs, while the headset is on a separate plug.
Any ideas?

Although I don't have the experience, I'd advise against using a soft-RAID root
partition because if you don't have the right kernel for recovery you could
be in pretty big trouble.
You're better off using a separate drive as a root partition for LVM or
soft-RAID.
Calyth
Well I do have another tool Partition Magic residing on the otherside of
the dual boot, The problem is that it couldn't move the partition either... it
thinks the ext2 is full. All it could do is to delete the partition, which
would be the last thing on earth that I wanted to do.
Calyth
w to put the journal back on but anyone knows how to remove the
journal safely?
Calyth
Perhaps it's time to get to Woody?
IMO rpm system sucks dependencies are never correct. Debs never have the
same
problem.
Linux have another problem in itself... no decently good office suite.
Calyth
Thanks for all the tips... I think I'll get that done for my laptop.
Hibernation is kinda funky on that thing, and it's not good to lose data.
Calyth
I remember that converting to ext3 requires to have the drive to be
umounted before you can convert. On my laptop, I was lazy and I only
have one partition for linux (the root partition). If so, then wouldn't
I need to use a boot disk to convert ext3? can someone help?

This renders my HD no udma, and making everything slow
This didn't happen when I was using 2.2.
I'm trying to enable the cmd640 workarounds, hoping that may be the
problem. Anyone know the solution to this?
Calyth

Thanks for the tip... it was more of an i/o and irq problem than kernel or alsa
anyways. I finally manage to get it working =)
Calyth
I know it's kind of silly that I asked here, but my laptop uses ESS1888
as the sound chip, but I cannot find the kernel driver. Can someone
unravel this for me?
Calyth
Thanks for letting me know Colin. Hope that we'll see even better hardware
recognition in the installer than before.
Calyth
half-install, mgetty says debian 3.0. Any
ideas?
Calyth
I guess i'll set up a split DNS because I do have a domain (shh... don't ask)
and
I need to get a DNS running anyways. Is it possible for me to move the internal
DNS to another machine other than the firewall?
Calyth
I'm planning to set up a proxy, and I'll have to get the standard
services (HTTP, FTP, POP), and SOCKS on the firewall. I'm just wondering
how the heck the machines inside can get DNS requests if they need to
have a DNS resolved? Do I have to setup a DNS for that purpose?
Calyth
So dante is a SOCKS server? Cool. I'll try that.
Calyth
difference betwene a transparent socks proxy and a
regular one?

etc/X11/Xserver have comments that are not denoted with #s in
front?
The first line leads to the path of X11, the second line says Console, but then
the comments are not differentiated by anything.
Calyth
s to RPM verify if you download deb packages off ftp you should be able to
get md5 sums, perhaps debsums is what you're looking for.
Without a doubt, deb packages rules over rpm.. I have so much trouble with RPM
back then...

I wonder anyone knows which commands and which programs do I need to
copy VCDs. I was dabbling with cdrdao but it refuses to do so. gcombust
won't do it either because it's not data or audio disk.

Actually I found it. I looked it up on the 2.4.x kernel and under Crystal

Thanks for the help anyways.

When I hit liveice -h it says it look for the config file in /etc as

I didn't think of the man pages... thanks for reminding and I'll check.

ring a few things, what does difok and use_authtok means, and if md5

If so do I need to make new ones?
Thanks in advance

Anyone experienced problems with 2.4.x where all of sudden reiserfs support was
dead despite I specified it in the kernel? I've downloaded all the source code

Somehow, by some odd chances, that my /var/log/wtmp was corrupted, and it left

What's wtmp about and how can I fix it?

I'm having this odd ball problem where ssh refuses to read the host keys and it
is unable to setgid. I've no idea what is wrong.
Does anyone have a clue about this?
Because I usually ssh in from school to check mail and maybe ICQ my friends
remotely =)
Calyth
As you bring this up I do notice that it happens on my machine too.
I've use 2.4.0 test10 and now 2.4.0, and swap is 0, and shared is 0.
My machine has 384M ram.

take?
Thanks
