Well, maybe not an ideal solution, but this worked:
1. Deleted all *gmane* files and directories in News directory in my
mozilla profile
2. Delete all lines having gmane.org in prefs.js.
3. Deleted panacea.dat (dont' know if this was necessary).

I've had a few problems trying to build a fresh 2.6.10 or 2.6.11
kernel. Nothing fancy. With gcc-4.0 I get tons of warnings, and
eventually it barfs when it gets to:
