Ok, I ended up downloading the xfs-xtt package and re-installing it with
dpkg, then removing it with apt. dpkg complained when I reinstalled
that the old files were bad, but it overwrote them safely.
Now my fonts are back to normal, so I guess it was xfs-xtt that was
causing the trouble.

I am running Sarge with a 2.6.8-2-k7 Kernel, and I have not yet
succeeded in installing Libgphot 2-2.1.6 from the .tar.gz file I
downloaded. I expanded the file into a directory and ran the install
script without it making all the changes required to use gphoto as a
GUI.

I'm in the practice of doing a chroot cross install to build a system
on a new disk. However, in this case, I'm trying to build a system on
my current machine (IBM PC, Intel, Sarge) in order to create a disk to

or libswt2.1-java, but I already have the first one installed and it

Actually I started off with ssh, but couldn't connect - the providers
instructions referred to putty so I installed that and tried it to make
sure I was using the correct u/p combination.
In fact it turned out to be a DNS-appearing problem which has been
bugging me for a while. ssh worked when
