Laugh.. I solved it. Somehow, my XF86Config-4 must have been replaced after
the last apt-get upgrade. I noticed it was having trouble loading "GLcore";
that's when I changed it to "nvidia" in the Modules section. However, I

I am trying to convert a .tif scanned image of text to something readable by
web browsers, ie png or jpg.
Using xv there is a bad loss in image quality, so that the text becomes
unreadable. I tried adjusting all the xv dials, but couldn't achieve
acceptable quality.

Hi all,
My x server suddenly became inoperable after a routine reboot to Windows and
back. I changed nothing as far as configuration or messed with any related
files since it last worked.
One pecularity, and the only clue I have as to the cause, is I found a few
files in my /lost+found directory,
Has anyone seen a SCSI device disappear? I was copying a disk with cdrdao
and my device disappeared and I had to reboot (figure that)? Any info
would be helpful.

Just wanted to confirm
In /etc/modules.conf you can assign whatever you like to whatever module.
For example:
alias eth0 8139too
alias eth1 eepro100
you get the gist I hope.
