Yep, the new drivers are _much_ better. I downloaded them too yestereday
shortly after they became available.
That is one of the reason why closed propietary drivers suck -- it takes
forever to get updates. The beta before this version was for 2.2.5.

notebooks an IP address. On the same box runs Bind as DNS server.
How can I tell the nameserver which IP addresses DHCP has assigned to
the hosts so the names get resolved to the correct IP?

I downloaded the sources for samba-2.0.4 from unstable and then
tryied do compile under slink (kernel 2.0.35).
I did a debian/rules binary and several parts of the process were
smooth but it failed when tryied to mv smbmount from
PATH/debian/tmp/usr/bin to PATH/debian

I han't noticed before, but since the upgrade to slink DOSEMU is
*incredibly* slow (perhaps 100 times slower than the real thing).

The man files for adding anything to the startup are really awful if you are
new to Linux. Is there a way for me have fetchamail start every time the
machine boots? .fetchmailrc is set to run in daemon mode but just getting the
thing to start if somehow the machine needs to be rebooted without

now works, but I still can't get an XF86Config file that will run the
screen in any mode higher than the "built-in" 320X220 resolution.
The strange thing about this, is that XF86Setup seems to be able to get
