supposed to autodetect devices at runtime which
means that there is no need to define them in xorg.conf as long as
autodetection does it job well. You may modify xorg.cong if you wish
to override autodetection results.

I'd personally recommend resolving all these problems using aptitude's
GUI. It is really useful when you need to investigate dependencies,
conflicts etc., a situation which happens often in Sid and sometimes
even in testing.
