I put together a script that patches the powerpc installer floppy image to
create a new floppy image which will boot an installed system. (Or just
add the boot arguments you want).
Here it is. Is it worthwhile to try to work this into the 'Make a Boot
Floppy' menu (after woody's release), or sh

Yes, apt-get is trying to install potato. The man page for sources.list
implies that I could just swap stable with woody. However, I've tried
that without success. Should I point to different ftp mirrors?
How did you get yours to work?

Should the command apropos work 'out of the box'?
I've recently done a fresh install of woody and get no hits when searching
with apropos, even though the relevant man pages exist:
# apropos ls
ls: nothing appropriate.
# apropos apt-get
apt-get: nothing appropria

I believe I am really close to getting Debian working on an IBM 44P-170
workstation.
I made a combined boot/root image. The kernel is 2.4.18 from kernel.org,
while the root image is from Debian. I used the default power3 config file
(power3_defconfig).
Root image:

This is more of a general linux question than a debian/ppc linux
question, you'll probably get a better answer posting to the
debian-user list.
I'll give you a hint though - try 'man 5 Xsession'.

I have an iMac running unstable with kernel 2.4.18 (though I think 2.2.20
had the same problem) and the keyboard LEDs are all wacked out.
The "num lock" light reflects the inverse of the caps lock state (off=on,
on=off).
The "caps lock" light is always on.
There is no "scroll lock" light or key,
