it means you neglected to specify your root partition with
root=/dev/hdaXX in /etc/yaboot.conf.

Excuse me: magazine for Linux PPC something like Visual Basic Journal, all
that you have said is real but sad. PowerPc is a great architecture and
linux run very fast on it, I think that MACOS, the latest version of this
operating system, is instable and very commercial, and Steve Jobs isn't

sounds like yet another victom of the broken paulus kernel .config
reconfigure your 2.4 kernel and under Filesystems turn DEVFS *OFF*
all of it every devfs option turn it off, not module, off.
then install that kernel and you will be fine.

Ah, I guess that explains the "unknown PHY" message I'm getting at boot
from the kernel off the Debian 2.2r2 CD. The ethernet does seem to work

Remounting the partition using "mount / -o remount,rw" has allowed me
to work on files again. Changing the kernel makde no difference.
How do I get the drive correctly mounted during init as almost all
the scrips are failing. Editing fstab didnt help this.

Hello,
I just got my Ti PowerBook, and I'm trying to install Debian on it,
having no use for the proprietary software that came with it. I've
made a CD of the non-us 2.2r2 image using the pseudo-image kit and
cdrecord.
So, I get into OpenFirmware, and then I try using "boot cd:", but that

the tibook's ethernet supports gigabit, and that PHY is too new for
the driver to understand. it would probably be a fairly simple fix
to add that to the driver.
