This reminds me of a very good book that is now out of print
"Etudes for Programmers" by Charles Wetherell. I can't find it online.
And, as the only copy I ever saw was a oversize trade paperback, it may
be hard to get a copy of. A good academic library might have it,
though.

why not see about building it yourself? if it already has a makefile or

Hi,
I would like to upgrade to the latest linux kernel version 2.2.12. Right
now I am running slink 2.1. I was told I needed to upgrade to potato to
make the best use with the least amount of problems with the best
compatability.
Here is what I have in my /etc/apt/sources.list file

the source just fine, and I can
enter the directory ean13-0.4 and use debuild to create another
identical deb.
So I muss and fuss, read the packageing manual againand I cant
seem to see why the package will not compile automagically with apt.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? I am lost...

Anyway, you need to define the directories (ie usr/lib and
usr/include) in debian/files. you might want to look at:
http://master.debian.org/~jwest/barcode/ as it now
installs the executable, the .a and the .h .

Any takers? :)

P.S: I'll put the code at www.debian.org/~jwl/ so you can look if and as you
want.

need to figure some things out and experiment with others. You can also see

I might as well license this, so it can be used in places like tutorials:

So... can we compile up a suite that's pam-able and installable and switch-

Yes; they distribute different packages if they contain machine dependencies,
or just one if the package is totally independant of architecture, which they
would be if, say, they were text files, shell scripts or interpreter scripts;
