Which kernel options are there for --linux-flavours with respect to
PowerPC? Do I need to use the following then:

The live-helper program for PPC (in Lenny) has a bug. It can't install
the Debian installer. I am not good enough to fix such things.

A successful evening :) I downloaded
debian-live-60alpha1-powerpc-lxde-desktop.iso and I dd-ed it on a USB
stick. I booted it just like the rescue-CD-iso and was successful with
boot option
live video=ofonly
I was dropped back into a shell as X refused. I fiddled with xorg.conf a
bit and a

What I found out first of all is that you cannot just copy yaboot over
from the iso. It won't boot with that. You need to create yaboot by
using the technique as mentioned on my website.
I downloaded debian-live-503-powerpc-lxde-desktop.iso and extracted the
