About the i8042 failure I did some more research. It's a keyboard
controller module, but this controller is not present on Macs. Gentoo
advizes not to have this module in when compiling the kernel:

Device Drivers - Input device support --->
Hardware I/O Ports --->
      < > Serial I/O support
        < > i8042 PC Keyboard controller

Maybe if we use a kernel without that module, that it will work better...
