i am about to double the size of my laptop ram from 1 to 2GB;
actually the swap space is 1906 MB (almost twice as the ram) but i
wonder if it is mandatory or simply better to double it again when i
double the size of the ram as well;

and viola. (I don't remember if usb-uhci has a dash or an underscore).

However, GNU parted cannot resize an NTFS partition (but works fine for
FAT32).
You need to download a ROOT disk and BOOT disk image and use dd (linux) or
rawrite (win) to copy them to floppy.

Have you tried to add a swapfile to fstab? Just to check if it has
something to do with not enough swap.
