Hi all,
Running testing on a wireless equipped laptop, I can usually get on to any
available networks using some combination of ifupdown, ifplugd, whereami,
resolvconf, kwifimanager etc.
One situation which has stumped me, however, is when the network requires a
password (which I have, of cou

I also had this problem when I first installed sarge; in that case it was
fixed by reconfiguring exim4 (dpkg-reconfigure exim4) .

Hi,
First, sorry if you've read this already, but I mis-posted it in an existing

Hi,
Posted this a couple of days ago on debian-user but no joy, so I'm trying
here; to those on both lists: sorry for the cross-post.
After upgrading to a 2.6.16 etch kernel on a whitebox Centrino, S3 suspend (to
ram) is now almost working using the hibernate script.
On resume, however, I fi

Hi,
Once again, this is more or less a repost of an earlier unsuccessful message
on debian-user.
Trying to debug a failure to recreate the event devices needed for a laptop
touchpad after S3 suspend-to-ram (I've posted on this previously, but have
narrowed things down a bit). It's a Centrino

Hi all,
The subject line describes what occurs when doing
#module-assistant auto-install thinkpad
using thinkpad-source and a custom 2.6.17 kernel from Debian testing sources.
The buildlog is below.

Hi,
I recently installed etch on a Thinkpad T40; it comes with a Cisco Aironet 350
mini-PCI wireless card, which uses the airo kernel module. Apparently this
doesn't support WPA, which I need.
Google tells me that there were a few moves afoot to include this support in
the driver; but the lat

You should be able to mute the mic channel in any mixer; run alsamixer in a
terminal or use alsamixergui, gmix, kmix etc. In kmix, it's under
Hi list,
This is documented on Thinkwiki already, but it's a bit buried so I thought
I'd bring it to the list's attention:
Many Thinkpad models appear to suspend to ram but actually use as much power
as they do when switched on!
But as of kernel 2.6.18 (e.g. current etch), all you have to d

The command

Alt+Shift+SysRq to shut down.
This is the eject function of the ibm_acpi kernel module, for Thinkpad
Ultrabays.
I want to add it to my suspend script as it saves a

My questions are: how are the above device nodes and file entries created? Is
there a possible workaround? Can devices be made permanent? Could this be a
kernel bug? Etc.
BTW, I use udev and my psmouse support is compiled as a module.
Thanks,
John O'Hagan
So I've rebuilt the kernel with USB as modules, and will try
various unload/load combinations to see what that does.
Cheers,

The option "SHM Config" must be "on" in your X86Config-4 (or whatever version
of X config you use) for some features to work.
If you wish to use a gui for it, may I suggest qsynaptics.
Hope this helps.

bled, the build fails as follows:
2.5.0 and later kernels require that PCMCIA be configured in the
kernel source tree. To fix, reconfigure and rebuild your
kernel with PCMCIA enabled
Does this mean the package is unbuildable, or have I misunderstood these
messages?

This made no difference - whether the touchpad-related modules are left
loaded, or unloaded before or after suspend, then reloaded. I also tried
unloading the usb

re a way of ensuring
that the touchpad is always /dev/input/event1? Is udev involved? Or is there
a better solution?

One would think so; but in fact if I modprobe -r psmouse (without suspending),
my touchpad stops working, and modprobe psmouse doesn't restart it,
