Saw the same problem on Solaris. You might want to create a new user with an
empty homedrive and start gnome as that user. If that works create an empty
homedrive for your own user and move back the config files directory by
directory.

I tried to install Debian Woody on a Laptop with the following configuration:
- - Mobile Athlon XP 2000+
- - ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 64 MB
- - Samsung CD-R/W DVD SN-324B
- - IEEE 1394 Firewire interface
- - Smart Link 56k Modem
- - VIA Rhine II Fa
I notice strange behaviour with mounting/playing audio CDs on my
laptop's drive:
Sometimes I have problems with mounting cd's/dvd's on my CD/CDR/DVD
drive (laptop: Compaq Armada M700; drive: H-L GCC-4240N 24x
DVD/CDR/CDRW). Kernel doesn't seem to recognize the device (messages
like: /dev/cdro

Just as a side note, for playing a cd you do not mount it, just insert it and
start a cd player.

Much thanks to Andre Eisenbach for suggesting that
my kernel needed to be recompiled in order to get the
CD-reader on my SONY VAIO SR27K to work. While I have
not gotten success, I have gotten closer.
I compiled my kernel so that CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDECS is set
as suggested on the "PCMCIA in the 2.4

Don't use POP, use IMAP. Then you won't need to fetch, and all the mail is

Make sure your kernel support VFAT and ISO9660. The relevant kernel options
are:
CONFIG_FAT_FS=y
CONFIG_MSDOS_FS=y
CONFIG_VFAT_FS=y
CONFIG_ISO9660_FS=y
CONFIG_JOLI
Take a look at masqmail. I have an almost identical configuration to what
you describe, and masqmail seems to fit the bill quite nicely. I should
mention that the version currently in unstable has some extra features
that work better with multiple sending accounts.
