Klistvud, I don't understand why should I reset the BOIS to its defaul setting? I did upgrade the BOIS when I had Windows installed on the machine but I don't have Windows any more and such thing is almost definitely going to need Windows. The BOIS upgrade did not cause the problem as it was the

Thank you so much Arthur for the useful link. I'm writting after such a long time! My solution to the dimming screen turned out to be an upgrade to Squeeze. It did not have pm-utils installed by default but after I installed it things went well. But unfortunately the sound is still coming from

I have tried all the three kernels. The one in Lenny, the one in Squeeze, and the one in Sid. No success although generally the newer the kernel, the better. I have read somewhere that under older kernels it was even worse than that. They say there was a sound coming from the speakers not only

No Andrey. I don't see such a message. The laptop works normally in almost all cases except that it generates a weird sound at reboot. Even upgrading to Squeeze did not resolve that issue.
