I have tried all the three kernels.  The one in Lenny, the one in Squeeze,
and the one in Sid.  No success although generally the newer the kernel, the
better.  I have read somewhere that under older kernels it was even worse
than that.  They say there was a sound coming from the speakers not only at
reboot, but also at shutdown and hibernation.  I wonder if I should report a
bug but don't know where and how to describe it.
