Sleeping is an ACPI feature. Maybe your LID event doesn't get processed.
Look into how to configure ACPI for you laptop. I can't really help with
XF86, and I think others may need some type of error message from the
logfile as well.

xserver 3, plus the svga xserver. I installed them, and it works fine.
I have a nice 8 bit color Gnome screen right now. Now that I have it
working, I need to refine it quite a bit. Thanks for all the help again.

Ok, I just went ahead and installed the base system. It's been
rebooted, and is now just sitting there. I went through the base setup
just to get the system semi-working, but that's it. Now I'm looking at
rebuilding the kernel or the route command.
