I've been running sid on my inspiron 8200 laptop for years with the
2.4 kernels. Every time I've tried 2.6 it had major problems.
Unfortunatly, lately they've managed to break 2.4 in sid so it has a
different set of major problems.
I'm back to trying 2.6 again. At least it now installs and boot

can hear sound, but I cant' use VOIP application like netmeeting.

The sound chip actually is made by Intel, so if U're using a 2.4.x kernel the
correct module to load would be "sound-intel8x0".
U still have to configure Alsa though - just have a look at the example
