I am using Debian on Compaq V2009. It works fine after a
struggle of hardware configuration. I suggest you reading the articles
on http://www.linux-laptop.net. There is a category for compaq laptop.
I did meet a lot of troubles during the installation, but trust
me. Debian works wel

I am using a hp compaq V2009 laptop. The synaptic touchpad works
well after installing the famous synaptic driver from
"http://web.telia.com/~u89404340/touchpad";. But when i plug in a
external usb mouse, the cursor on the screen is out of control and the
system keeps reporting the error:
I am using Presario V2000, and encounter the same problem.
My solution is when booting, use right CTRL+C to terminate the loading
of i810_audio, you should press the key right before the loading!
Then the system will go on to boot but without module for net card.
After booting, use "modprobe 8139t
