been done when I change my old kernel 2.2 in a new one 2.6.10 . Maybe I
chose the wrong options in the menu?
(I run a make menuconfig)

If you don't need seeing a logical v?fat partition from the dark side
system©, it is safer setting the container type to `Linux extended' (85)
than to `Extended' (05), as especially hda5 can be messed up.

You can try changing also the type of primary ext2 partitions to some
exotic value, as Linux don't worry about, and see what happens?
(backup your MBR won't hurt).
