Can I build both ACPI and APM into my kernel, and then choose which I
want to use with kernel boot-up parameters or some such option? (e.g.
apm=on, or something like that?)

ly, I see acpid is set up by default to detect and log the events,

realised that the old Pentium120 will then possibly NOT have
a fixed dotclock, it can likely depend on the scaled resolution, thus
for 320x200 it will have a dotclock that is necessary to output
640x600(?) I will only be able to test this in two and a half weeks'
time, unless I can squeeze it in on Thursday (maybe). But I can try a
twisted mode on this laptop...

nothing related to "serial", and nothing on IRQ 4, until pon is run, at
which point IRQ 4 is taken by "serial".

that they can check/replace the sound card, I just want to make sure that
there is a good chance it is actually the hardware.

Judging from the fact that your query was sent to debian-laptop, I'd
assume you have a pcmcia network card, in which case you should also have
a look at /etc/pcmcia/network.opts... though that is for potato. I'm not
sure if it is the same on slink.
