thanks to all those who replied so far. The Xircom modem does work again
(I didn't include PCMCIA serial devices support into the kernel).
However, my FA510c network card still doesn't work (I always hear a high
low beep sequence when inserting the card).

Potato 2.4 packages provided by Adrian Bunk. However, after the update I
cannot
use PCMCIA cards anymore even though they seem to be identified
correctly, eg.

I have trouble getting the Netgear FA510 Cardbus Fast Ethernet Card to
work. While "cardctl ident" reports the correct card I cannot ping
another computer connected via a cross over cable (but it works in W2k).
