The main problem seems to be that the Acer BIOS does not have a VESA
mode entry for the specified resolution. For some reason XFree uses

Hi,
This is for those of you, that have laptops with igp 320m graphics boards. You
should check
deb http://penguinppc.org/~daniels/sid/i386/ ./
Newest packages include patch for igp 320m (maybe igp 340m too). I have been
running since yesterday.

If it does, we should open a new thread.

I don't have any excuse for missing this except that I have to admit not
having read the beginning of this thread...
You're running a 2.4 kernel. Pavel Machek, who is at least partially -
probably mostly - responsible for S3/S4 support for ACPI, has stated
that it will never be possibl

Emma,
Are you using the latest acpi kernel patches? The version of acpi
included with most kernels is very old.

The specifics depend on the machine and the BIOS.
I was doing some resaerch on why keys on my thinkpad seemed to 'stick'
and found that was blamed on APM interrupt calls. Switching to ACPI
would fix that but break other things, such as my ability to use 'Fn'
keys, and my kernel (2.4.20) would
Has anyone had problems with isa devices not getting setup

seemed to coincide with me trying ACPI and a HD crash..
I had a harddrive crash sometime ago, and reinstalled with

My understanding is this:

May not work with newer machines. Uses the

So if I did apt-get install kernel-source-2.4.20 I don't have the patched
kernel? At one point I installed kernel headers for 2.4.20 because

Hi,
Time to learn about XF86Config. You may
actually have a 1024x768 "virtual" display,
where it will pan things within the 800x600.
It'd check your /etc/X11/XF86Config file, and
do some searching on the web for the "Linux
on Laptops" page, and get an XF86Config file
for your specific machine if
I've setup an old Dell laptop with Debian and have a couple of questions:
(1) I know I gave it my maximum screen resolution in the install, but it seems
to be sizing the screen as if there's more real estate than it actually has.
(e.g. my screen is max 800x600, it looks like it's trying to send
