With the help of Maarten Slaets I managed to let winme have the option
to boot into dos. So now loadlin works, but it hangs after loading the
kernel and root image.
If I type (from the install.bat):
loadlin linux root=/dev/ram initrd=root.bin disksize=1.44
it says that it loads the kernel

Well, I can't speak for Adaptec cards or anything, but I will tell you to
keep away from the latest version of New Media Bus Toaster card.
As this is a public forum, I cannot type the words I want to use to describe
this useless, miserable, stench-ridden
Even if the below works, you may still have trouble with gnome (at least I do).
I find that when I stop esd and restart it, the panel doesn't make its cool
sounds anymore--and indeed can freeze up in an effort to play anything!
