n. That just causes more problems than it is worth in the
long run. Combining Etch (testing) with SID (unstable) is simpler, as long
one doesn't "flood" the testing system with SID packages.
As often the answer is more like "it depends" than a general resolution ;-)

looks like the alpha channel (transparency in the icons) does not work.
If it works, some semi-tansparent pixel on the borders of the icons are used
to blend the icons into the background, and avoid the "jagged edge" effect.

"udev" is not ready for widespread production use (IMHO). I use it on my SID
desktop machine, but I had to configure quite some things so e.g. my scanner
and my DVD burner worked...
But maybe the KDE feature is already enough...
