It seems that because dri doesn't work for the second session
"something" else is used (EXA? AIGLX?). Then this appears to crash due
to the rotate left.

Sorry to wait that long to try your suggestion.
This is to let you know after I did:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
(thus restoring /etc/X11/xorg.conf to its default) I can actually open
multiple sessions. So the problem can actually be reproduced in this
way.

It must be in the combination then, since on my very very old
'vesuvius' (ati + pentium + 128Mb) there is no problem with the same
debian lenny.
Since I can reproduce it easily, with 1.3 I'd be happy to provide you
with 'moreinfo' if I knew how to find it.

This seems to work fine here on i945GM with 2.6.24 and Xserver/driver
