Some updates on this topic. The solution that I proposed was bad then, and is
now worse:
- it assumed that all CF cards report the same "CF Card" string, which is not
the case.
- it doesn't work on Wheezy - apparently, KDE no longer uses hal.
New proposed solution:
- create /etc/udev/rules.d/99-

OK, sorry, there's more specificity to this experience:
Basically, there is a separate filesystem mounted at /var/tmp
The nautilus Trash can does what you would expect with files that
end up in /home/user/.local/share/Trash

Two, these bugs ARE STILL A PROBLEM as of nautilus 2.26.2-5
Three, a basic desktop function like "Empty Trash" not working is
