as a workaround, I explicitly switched to pyside:
sudo apt-get install python-pyside
and then:
QT_API=pyside spyder
For spyder3 :
sudo apt-get install python3-pyside
and:
QT_API=pyside spyder3

I ran into the same problem after updating texlive on sid/unstable, rendering biber unusable.
On a additional note, when calling 'pdflatex' I get the error message:
Package biblatex Warning: File 'main.bbl' is wrong format version - expected 2.7.

for the record: I have the same problem which is caused by libatlas3-base.
See Bug #676885 for details.
Removing the package libatlas3-base fixed the problem.

since advi works with TeXLive (Bug 388435 is resolved), I tried using
whizzytex with TexLive.
whizzytex 1.3.0-4 worked with texlive 2005.dfsg.2-4 (etch) and texlive
2005.dfsg.2-4 (unstable) with no problems.
