Hi, I'm attaching an strace. I found that on my system synfig looks for
.la files which aren't there, then it looks for .so files which aren't
there (though the corresponding .so.0 files are). I found that if I
install libsynfig-dev, then "synfig --targets" runs successfully. The
strace is with lib

today I upgraded my system and sadly evolution was dying while showing
html-messages first. Some restarts later it hangs in the formating issue
and *** glibc detected *** was printed out.
The workaround from Gustavo Franko posted by Thomas Weber helped to get

Unfortunately the patch given is insufficient for the general case.
It appears that swish-e spawns everything through the shell "sh -c
'command'"[1]. Parameters within command are not quoted.
This has serious implications, for example when scanning the file:
