I reinstalled my laptop, in order to set up a hibernation partition
this time. I lied to the BIOS and told it that the drive geometry for
my new 12 GB hard disk is the same as that of the original drive. I

When the first partition is a swap partition, it does not see the new
partitioning scheme...
I had 1024Mb swap, the rest linux, then went back and did 1024Mb swap
(left it there) and deleted the linux partition, then created a 16Mb
linux then the rest as another linux partition. Each time I

I found that the DHCP v3 `dhclient' works much better than the
`dhcpcd' does. There's a package in "project/experimental" that I've
been using. I bet it will be ready for the main distro by release
day anyway, so why not just use it?

am now able to install and run off a hard drive
although the installation named the drive "hdg", and I can't boot from that

I think that it ought to be very granular, with a complex dependancy
structure, so that changing one thing doesn't involve a long rebuild
cycle before a testable image is generated. Makeing it work with the
`-j' switch would be a Go
For the new installer, I think that "/etc/lilo.conf" should be pulled
out into a conffile, with the `lilo' package, and configured from
there, so that upgrading `lilo' will upgrade that also. This way,
for instance, folks upgrading `slink' to `potato' would have had an
upgraded `lilo.conf'
Have yous seen the `Remote Boot mini-HOWTO'?
Marcus' mention of GRUB reminded me of it. I just wonder if that all
could or should be integrated in some way?
The Corel fancy boot screen thing is neat... but fails to boot on my

was working around `boot-floppies-2.2.{9,10,11}'. I hope it's not
broken now. The identical `mount' command from the shell command
line on vt2 hangs also, so I don't believe it's a problem with
`dbootstrap'... how could it be?
