external SCSI cable.
A new cable fixed the issue. I'd check the cable first, if you are using one.

While testing nano and nano-tiny 1.0.8, which should fix #127634,
I found that if slang1-utf8 is installed, nano-tiny does weird things.
It's reproducible in 1.1.5 in unstable and presumably 1.0.6-2 too.
