Thought I'd ask here, since Ubuntu-Mate is a fork of Debian.
I installed Ubuntu-Mate 24.04 in a VM, and it was talking with espeak-ng.
Then I installed Voxin-3.4 and the IBM voice spoke after running the
voxin-installer, and I rebooted, and now there is no sound from Orca.

Well I tried speechd-up and it didn't find it, so I installed it.
Then when I tried to run it, it said it was already installed.
But spd-say still does not work.
I tried spd-say with both espeak-ng set as the TTS and with Voxin, and
neither works with speech-dispatcher.

Hi Again Glen: As a shot in the dark, do a "ps -a" then run a "sudo kill -9" on
processes related with Voxen-and-other speech related items like espeak.
Especially after speech-dispatcher is killed, you can once again try
sudo speechd-up
