Hello Halim and all that followed this thread, sorry for replying only now, but I was on vacation last week. I am sceptical about stable update of speech-dispatcher. I honestly don't really have enough experience with Debian to have the right intuition whether an update is stable-worthy or not,

Hi guys, I'm surprised of all these feedbacks. In my opinion, yes, squeeze should be stable (usable without doing anything). I guess Debian has this approach of the stability. It means that every bug which prevents from using an appli should be marked in the BTS as major. If the workaround is easy

Hi, Using a stable distro should be possible without doing unusual things. Using a screenreader on plain tty without running a desktop with pulseaudio should be possible as well. The alsa bug is really old and was reported in 2009 upstream. http://lists.freebsoft.org/pipermail/speechd/2009q1/00160

The url you gave says: - without libao, alsa goes in segfault: are zou sure? here alsa, on squeeze, works perfectly with speech-dispatcher. The service is bugged, but if the user runs individually the speech-dispatcher daemon, it works. N
