be ideal to try the patch with the nativehd initrd, as the first thing the
Debian Installer does in that image is to bring the network up.

10 Mbit and work nicely on NetBSD; but I already talked about this issue on
other thread.
If I am able to check that the changes successfully work, I will send a Merge
Request in the debian-installer repo.
