There are several things of note in the latest cygwin snapshot:
The first is Christopher January's latest proc improvements:
http://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin-patches/2002-q2/msg00154.html
The second is an addition to cygwin's mount processing, i.e.:
mount --no-executable -b c:/foo /foo

There is a new version that you can use. Just download it again.

Hello
I use the latest version of setup.exe (2.194.2.24) and for the past
days it
terminates abnormally when I try to use it.
When it tries to download setup.ini and reaches about 98000 bytes,
Windows
reports that setup.exe caused an error and should be terminated.
I have used setup.e

Well setup has no hardcoding for the 'initial' packages. All packages
are equal. I'm pretty much out of ideas as to how this could be
occuring.
Could you document your exact mouse clicks and keyboards strokes for a
typicall session?

Hello,
Yes. The initial packages, what is programmed in to setup to retrieve as
the cygwin base installs fine, however nothing else will.
For lack of any good ideas on my part i was wondering if it is possible
to download cygwin packages manually to / then bunzip2 them and untar them,
if t
So you are saying that the initial packages do install correctly?

Hello,
This cygwin install is a fresh install. If i start it, and select view
partial those packages are all i will get, if i first select another
package, then go to view partial the additional package shows up but is not
fetched.
Dave.

If the system UID is 18 then maybe cygwin should be translating that to 0.

Hello,
I've just figured out some information on my setup problem. If i use the
view button to change from catagory to partial without first selecting any
packages the partial listing is all i get. If i select a package, then go

Hi,
I got cygwin 1.3.10 installed 10 days ago and I had no problem with this
first install. Now I wanted to add some packages but the setup application
crash while downloading the setup.ini file around 90KBytes downloaded (never
the same size downloaded before crashing). I got a general protection

David,
In less than 10 clicks I went into setup.exe (having no idea where libintl1
is) and expanded the package tree to find All->Libs->libintl1. What was so
hard about that?
It may be that you have been working with a bad mirror site that doesn't
have recent packages (or maybe it is *way* out

Hi all,
relating to http://sources.redhat.com/ml/cygwin/2002-01/msg9.html, where a
new way of creating cygwin import libraries is described, I have a note to qt-3.
qt-3 references to a libld.a, which contains the dynamic loading functions in
linux (and perhaps other os). Of course it is poss
Thanks Robert and Chris, but that didn't help after all...
In fact I got exactly the same results as before, including the lockup after
downloading setup.ini. (That file being 98939 bytes long.) So the problem
remains unsolved.
Looking inside setup.ini, I note that it starts (apart from comment
Yeah, that's the one :].

I'm a newcomer to the cygwin scene, so I may have missed something
fundamental here. However, I doubt it, as no special expertise should be
needed to follow installation instructions given on the home page (or should
it ?!?).
I've tried using the setup.exe in the main 'Install Now' link several w
