Hello,
A number of years ago I had an 1986 O'day with about 20 years or hard, foul,
bottom paint buildup. Large sections of bottom paint would fall off. The
keel looked terrible. Over the winter I decided to redo the bottom.
I tried sanding, chemicals, and scrapping the old paint. Scraping worke
Hey,
I do like Standard Horizon gear and I have had a few of their VHD radios.
Nice gear, good audio quality, innovative, etc.
My comment is this: The SH radios are NMEA 0183 only. This is too bad
because NMEA 2000 is much easier to integrate. If you don't have any other
electronics, and do
Hello,
I have Simrad setup. The wireless handset comes with a charging cradle. On
my boat, the fixed mount radio is mounted down below at the chart table. The
charging cradle for the wireless handset is at the helm. When I'm on the
boat the radio is on and the handset is in the cradle, so it's cha

Hey,
I have used dry ice for years. If it's hot enough to require dry ice then
the hatches, ports, etc. are going to be open and plenty of fresh air is
going to be circulating through the boat.
Good luck,

Hi Guys,
I have heard the expression 'if you think it's time to reef, then reef' many
times. I basically agree, buy many new sailors don't realize there are many
things you should do BEFORE reefing.
In light air (5 kts) you want a very full sail shape to capture as much
power as possible. The hal
Hello,
I looked a C&C 99 a number of years ago, probably around 2012. It was very
nice, and is kind of tight down below. I wanted a boat that 4-5 people could
spend 3-4 days aboard and I felt that the 99 was just too small. I ended up
buying a 110 and the extra space below was the big difference.
Hey,
I agree that the East River is the best way to go. However, you can pretend
you are doing the Around Long Island Regatta and sail around Montauk.
To the guy (Rob?) who is boat shopping for a 34+. Have you considered the
newer C&C 99? You might find one in your price range and they are very
Hello,
There is / was a C&C 110 group on Sailing Networks. That site is unreliable
and going away. If you are interested in the C&C 110 there is a new facebook

Hello,
My 2002 110 has a saildrive. I bought the boat in 2013. I had the saildrive
seals changed in 2016. My mechanic did the work and it cost about $2K. The
original seal was in the boat for 14 years and looked perfect. I will wait
15 years before I change the seal again.
IMHO the saildrive is e
Hey,
If you don't race, I question need for line adjustable cars.
The boat I race on has them, and they work well. We have three headsails to
pick from, and not all courses are windward / leeward, so we do adjust the
cars during the race.
I don't race my boat (that seriously anyway) and I don't

Hello,
I also like Endura Braid. Easy on the hand, doesn't stretch. I don't like
VPC - too stiff. For low budget I would just use Sta Set (not X). Or wait
for a good sale and get Endura.
Good luck,

Hey,
What does 'set it and forget it' mean?
No offense, but if you sail in 5 kts of wind and also in 20 kts of wind you
really should be adjusting halyard tension (even on a boat with roller
furling).
In low wind you want the halyard 'soft' so the sail has more draft and
generates more power. I
Hello,
I have a C&C 110 with the Evo 100 wheel pilot. A friend of mine has a 35
mark 3 and the same wheel pilot. I race on that boat and am on it
frequently.
For my use (and his too) the Ray wheel pilot is adequate. I use the pilot
for short handed / single handed sailing in fair weather conditi
Hey,
Where will you be on Long Island? It's kind of a big place with lots of
traffic. There are some cool spots all over. Someone might even volunteer to
take you sailing on a C&C.
Good luck,

Hello Again,
Melville is pretty much the center of Long Island.
With one day to see stuff I would recommend going north into the town of
Huntington. There are some nice parks and museums there.

Hi Steve,
A few questions for you:
-What do you use the AP for? Is it just used when motoring, or when putting
the sails up/down? Do you use it with the sails up in gusty conditions or
when racing (if allowed by the rules)?
-What other electronics do you have and are they currently interfaced to t
Hey
Considering that you don't know if the rest of your AP system works, I
strongly suggest that you buy a new system. I'm really surprised at the cost
of the used control head. IMHO it's not worth the chance that some of the
older gear won't work. The new gear is modern, will come with all new

Hello,
Regarding spinnakers for racing - you didn’t write (or maybe I just missed) if
you are currently using a spinnaker now or not. If you’re currently a Jib and
Main (JAM) boat and you’re trying to race against spinnaker boats, you will not

Hello,
Can someone please explain how sailing with a single sail, either head sail
or main sail, could INCREASE the load on the mast as compared to sailing
with two sails? It seems to me that the more sail area, the higher the load.
If you are sailing downwind with a headsail up I don't understand
Hey,
I am not an expert but I will try to answer your questions.
I race spinnaker on my friend's C&C 35 mark 3, and non spin on my 110.
When racing non spin I find that is it best to sail down wind directly to
the mark, sailing the least distance. Typically this will be dead downwind.

Hey
I find it amusing that everyone states ‘good boats are cheap and a dime a

find those boats. The actual boat buying people state ‘all i see are crap
overpriced boats’. So the truth mu
Hey,
Generally, the whisker pole is used if you are sailing downwind and the
barber hauler if you are reaching.
On my boat, if I am doing a windward / leeward race, we will have genoa and
mainsail in tight for upwind work. Once we round the mark and head downwind
we will run wing and wing with th
Hi Wade,
Some terminology so we are all discussing the same thing.
I am not using a barber hauler. Typically a barber hauler (BH) is a separate
line attached to the sheet. The BH is used to position the clew of the sail.
Most of the time the BH will move the sheet in or out. Some can also
