Hello,

A number of years ago I had an 1986 O'day with about 20 years or hard, foul,
bottom paint buildup. Large sections of bottom paint would fall off. The
keel looked terrible. Over the winter I decided to redo the bottom.

I tried sanding, chemicals, and scrapping the old paint. Scraping worked
best but was slow and very hard.

I did some research, and decided to try Soda Blasting. I hired a guy to do
the work and the results were great. The soda removed all of the old bottom
paint and didn't damage the gelcoat. The resulting hull as very fair and
smooth. The hull as so smooth that I needed to sand it with 80 grit to give
it some 'tooth' so that the barrier could would stick.

At the same time my boats was being done, another guy had his boat sand
blasted. The sand easily removed the bottom paint, but did a lot of damage
to the hull. There were many many small holes in the hull, and the owner
sent countless hours fairing.

I would definitely recommend soda blasting.

In 2013 I bought my C&C 110 and I sold the O'day the next year.
