Sam,
Have a photo you can share on how it looks in gray?
All the best,

All,
I was very interested reading about going keyless for your engine's
ignition. Certainly makes sense - It's getting the battery switch on that is
the real hurdle for stealing a boat. It's very easy to get to the back of an
engine panel and just connect the wires.
Plus when
Coquina never had an ignition switch. Push button start from 1973 to 2013 :)

Hi Edd,
On a previous boat I used the industrial AB momentary pushbutton
switches. Red for glow plugs & green for starter (go!). They had a
waterproof cover over the pushbutton.

I turned my key on and pulled the key out. Ignition panel activated when

Hi Ray,
I've raced with quite a few lazy jack systems and they're okay
because you can tuck them out of they way, abaft the mast. Having
never sailed with the Dutchman, I believe it will disturb laminar
flow across the mainsail a bit.

No reason. It is done all the time. They will work just fine. I have

Nope, can't think of a reason it wouldn't work. Easy enough to test.

I like the idea of using a switch, but would there be an issue if
someone "forgot" to turn it off when the DC power is on, i.e, any
risk of damage to the electrical system or other potential
hazards? With the key, forgetting is much less likely for anyone with CRS.

We purchased a spray can of Teflon grease from the local hardware store -
works just fine. Would suggest sticking to the Teflon as any other type
will eventually build up and or harden causing all kinds of mischief with
the bearings

Hi Tom,
I have forgotten the "switch on" a few times. You will lose a few
amps to alternator field current and that's about it. In my case I
can get a reminder thump from my electric fuel pump impulse (once in
awhile) if I'm paying attention.

Wow, just realized it's been 10 years since I lubed the Edson gear and chain
inside the pedestal. That's when I installed new chain and cable.
I do wipe the cable a few times a season with a light weight oil on a rag, and
lube the turning blocks underneath the pedestal.
Just a thought:

Hi John,
I did it last September. Replaced the 1988 Wilcox with a Jabsco household bowl.
On my 38-3, there is no bolt under the toilet floor. It is solid wood under the
fiberglass, and those fasteners are wood screw studs with a round head nuts.
I had to switch the pump mechanism to the left
Thanks Pierre,

It does mean that while running them with the engine on (or a battery
charger running) they will run hot - so they won't last as long as their
designed life at 12v. Which probably is not a problem given the number
of running hours on a boat.

Hi Josh,
Based on the well documented report of your rudder repair, I decided to
tackle this job myself for my 34+ which has the same rudder shape as yours.
You mentioned 4 lbs. foam -- is this 4 lb./cubic ft. density? I have the
skin removed from one side and the old saturated foam removed. The

Instead of rebuilding the head, investigate replacing the entire pump assembly
and the joker valve. If the bowl is in good shape and you can find the correct
pump assembly, this might be a very viable option.

Starbrite Teflon grease is $10.99 for a 4 oz bottle at West Marine. It is

Bicycle chain lube would work great for the gear and chain in a pedestal. It is

it is resistant to moisture (don’t know about salt water though) and doesn’t
