I had the same thing happen to me this year on both of my 3 year old vents.
It turns out it wasn't the battery failing but the motor. The stator ( the
part that doesn't move ) started to break down and drop particles onto the
brushes which started to short out and break off. The motor is of extreme

I thought I'd share an update on reliability of the Nicro vents. My three
year old day / night solar vent failed shortly after launch this year. I
changed the battery over thinking it had been damaged during the winter,
but that didn't work and it turned out to be the motor. Replacement is

Exactly. That's the new style.
Note the openings vs the "feet" around the cover. Any line 3/8 or smaller
can get caught in the openings.

Listers,
Has anyone tried installing those Nicro solar fans onto their C&Cs? I would
assume
I just stick one in each of Honey's dorade boxes Works just fine. Never could
understand why one would cut a 3 or 4 inch hole in an expensive lexan hatch lens

I have two of the 4" Day night 2000 fans. One is in the lens of the hatch over
the salon set for exhaust. The second is in the foredeck hatch set for intake.
I have been thinking about getting two of the 3" daylight only fans and
mounting them on the dorade boxes in place of the current cowl ven

Have one in the head set to exhaust. Definite thumbs up.

Edd,
I have a solar Nicro fan with the battery backup on my forward
hatch...works 24/7 pulling air through the boat and out through the fan.
Wouldn't be without one.

Hi Edd,
I have one for the head and one for the hanging locker, both set to exhaust.
You are trying aid natural ventilation which is in from the
companionway and moving forward through the boat IF you are on a
mooring or bow towards the prevailing breeze. (assuming hatches

Ditto.
This fan, in the head, on exhaust, is one of the best tweaks you can do for
a boat.

I had two set to exhaust on my 34+ many years ago. Mounted them in the aft
hatchs and then left the forward hatch slightly open. It did make a difference
on a boat with so-so ventilation.

I put one in the head to replace the passive UFO ventilator; I set it to
exhaust and it makes a noticeable difference in how the boat smells. There
is enough air getting in by other means to replace the air going out, which
is good since I'd hate to deflate my boat accidentally.

Listers,
Has anyone tried installing those Nicro solar fans onto their C&Cs? I
would assume the best practice would be to have two, one towards the front of
the boat blowing air in and one toward stye beck blowing air out.
Are they worth the investment? If you’ve used them, whe
