So now that you have a PHRF cert...what race are you doing?

Success (mostly) I managed to get one screw out with extra PB Blaster,
valve grinding compound and a vise grip on the screwdriver. I got the
other part way out before killing the screw head. I would have finished

If there's any of the Phillips head left but you can't get the screwdriver
to bite in it, if it's starting to strip, put a glob of valve grin
e to replace the glass again.

To get the screw out you can try an easy out:

They come in different sizes. If you've never used one it's essentially a
reverse threaded screw. You use an appropriately sized drill bit to drill
into
ve to replace the glass again.

Rob,
Thanks for the tip! (no pun intended). Off to the auto parts store.
BTW, SailRite was much cheaper than Defender for sail numbers. I needed
sets for 3 sails, and it was more than double at Defender.

If there's any of the Phillips head left but you can't get the screwdriver to
bite in it, if it's starting to strip, put a glob of valve grinding compound in

the head.
Also try heat on the screw.

I'm trying to remove the set screw on the exterior knob of my forward
hatch. The knob is aluminum. The screw is a phillips head screw. I've
used PB Blaster and I'm letting it soak in. If that doesn't work, what is
the next step? Heat? drill/dremel (I'm afraid I'll get more aluminum than
screw)
