I did this with mine last winter. I have solid aluminum stanchions in SS pocket
type bases. My fabricator tried soaking, heat, cutting the bottom out and
pushing with a 30 ton press...all to no avail. He eventually cut the base
vertically and was able to press it out. He re welded and pol

Do you really need to? Unless you're planning to replace stanchion or
base, it might be okay to let it be. Mine were pretty thoroughly welded
together, and it seemed to me that trying to separate them would
probably crack or destroy the aluminum base. You could remove them
together and refin
Heat the base with a propane torch ,use a can of Freeze it on the SS stanchion
leg.
If that fails revert to previous suggestion about beating it with the
appropriate sized hammer !-)
