Derek,
I did this with mine last winter. I have solid aluminum stanchions in SS pocket 
type bases. My fabricator tried soaking, heat, cutting the bottom out and 
pushing with a 30 ton press...all to no avail. He eventually cut the base 
vertically and was able to press it out. He re welded and polished it and it 
looks as good as new.
