Do you really need to? Unless you're planning to replace stanchion or
base, it might be okay to let it be. Mine were pretty thoroughly welded
together, and it seemed to me that trying to separate them would
probably crack or destroy the aluminum base. You could remove them
together and refinish the base with the stanchion in place.

Any ideas on how to remove stainless lifeline stanchions that are seized into their
alloy bases? Boat came from salt water now in fresh and time to clean, update
& maintain.
