You can hotwire the pump to test it's function. As I believe Fred
indicated, to wires for the motor and to for the engage/disengage
solenoid.
Without power applied the drive is in "standby" and the arm should move in
and out without much resistance. When the solenoid is engaged the drive

Did you set the drive configuration? It has a few options - for a while I ran
mine with the old wheel drive (before I got the linear drive installed) and it
had an option for that...
