Speaking of “good autopilots” has anyone installed an under deck autopilot on a
34+? I think it would be possible although the installation would be a job for

I believe you have to cut through the glassed tube the rudder post sits in….

I've thought of it. It would at least mean reworking the lazarette and the
small hatch on the port side of the cockpit. You'd need a good amount of
storage for the rope - with the boom swung out all the way and with a 3:1
purchase you'd be looking at nearly 70' of main sheet? I decided if i was
goi
FWIW, my 1995 36XL/kcb came with the traveler mounted just forward of the
binnacle and was originally a Lewmar model. For reasons that I no longer
remember, I switched the Lewmar out for a Harken with a windward sheeting car
(that may have been the reason!).
