Suggest you determine if you can shift transmission at the transmission
successfully. If so and it stays in gear w/o issues, replace cable assy.
If not and trans fluid level is normal and ‘clean’, you likely need new trans.
When my trans recently died, it stuck in gear as I was docking, partially

We do about 7 with a 3 blade maxprop and a yanmar 3gm, our bottom gets
wiped every few months but we try to take it out often enough that the
ablative does it's job. Diver never complains about hard growth.
Any of you have propspeed or barnacle barrier applied to prop or shaft?

Yes the meeting is 7:00pm EST (Eastern time) and NOT Central time.
I’ll try to change the reservation link and the response emails.
Sorry for the confusion – I’m new at this.

Yes the atomic 4 is rated at 30 HP but no one uses it near its HP peak
level of RPM. So most people in sailboats use about 18-20 HP of the usable
30. Some of the older power boats may have revved that engine up to the HP
peak level. I don't think I ever pushed mine over about 2200 rpm so that

Losses might be 5 or 10 percent, but I never heard of almost 2/3s!
There is the prop issue and gearing though, that 30 HP is at 3600 RPM. The only
A4s that can do that are in planing boats or have the 2:1 reduction gear.
Absent the gear you are probably at 22-24 HP at best and many A4s came sever
I believe the difference is between rated HP and shaft HP, which is
generally lower after things like transmission loss, accessory loads, and
friction.
IIRC, an A4 was rated as 30HP, but the shaft HP was something like 17or 18.
Which is why an2 cylinder Yanmar is a suitable replacement foe an A

I suspect some might simply have been re-powered over the years as our Santiago

I have a 2015 Beta 30 in my C&C 37+. At 2600 RPMs, we’ll reach Warp 7.2 (7.2
knots). More RPMs won’t make much of a difference.
All the best,

I do about 6 knots at around 2100-2200 RPM and 5 inches manifold in calm water
with a clean bottom. I can push up to maybe 6.5-6.8 at full throttle, but the
large noise increase is not worth it. My A4 is direct drive with a smallish
prop, so adverse wind and seas really knock that speed down. Al

Peter,
My 1983 LF 35 came with a Yanmar 3HM with a 3 blade fixed prop. It’s happiest
around 2200 RPM at roughly 6 knots. Anything more than that it sounds like the
hull is shaking apart. Not a lot of sound deadening in general with that
diesel, but it gets pretty loud at higher RPMs. Since I

I've got a Westerbeke 33 with a 2 blade folding prop.
I would say I do 7 knots at about 2700 -2800 rpm pretty consistently.

Westerbeasts and mine had a Yanmar.

Hi, Richard and all
Looks like Marco might dissipate somewhat off the coast south of
Louisiana. Laura will maintain its strength and move in a more westerly
direction towards the Louisiana/Texas border. Touche' in Pensacola should
see little from either. The Admiral and I were on the boat Satur
Dennis and Gulf of Mexico owners, how are you weathering the hurricanes and
what are you expecting? The West coast of Florida is also getting some impact
from them as well...
It looks like it may go right through Pensacola...! batten down and stay safe!
